Retailers earn a profit by marking up their wares a significant percentage than the wholesale price that they bought them for.
The retail sector includes clothing stores, hardware stores, home furnishing stores, and salon services, amongst others.
Examples of small-cap retailers include JC Penney, Ascena, and Groupon.
